Second Hand Falling Off = Military Specification??

. . . most likely, a customer specification for some special military application. If soldier gets captured, he shakes his wrist in a special way and all hands fall off so that enemy forces could not determine what time it is or what is being timed (bombing runs?? troop movements??)
