The registers should be slightly recessed as on this example - the dial is built up as a "sandwich" of layers and the registers are one layer below the top of the dial.

There are plenty of people offering replacement straps and for a buckle you could go vintage (expensive and beware of forgeries) or for one of the re-edition buckles (still keep an eye out for fakes).

The price is reasonable, certainly for Switzerland - when I've been, I've noticed that it's not really the cheapest place to buy vintage Swiss watches, ironically!
