Re: Le Mans / Isle of Man TT Races

Mike the Bike was amazing. Glad to know he had a Heuer connection. Pretty much anybody racing the IoM TT has balls of steel. I love riding fast but don't think I could manage a pace within 40mph of the field. Would be fun to try. I did manage 160+mph on the Autobahn for about 30 minutes but fast is easy on that kind of road.

As a recent 1133G buyer and recipient of Shaun's generous comments
: on the watch I feel very bad at having missed his sterling
: efforts and his 'call to arms' for final hour Monaco images. My
: excuse ? Here in the Isle of Man our TT Races clashed with Le
: Mans this year and I've always been a two-wheeler at heart. A
: legend over here was Mike Hailwood whose iconic status was
: sealed in 1978 when he returned to the Island, out of condition
: after years of injury-related absence, to win on an underdog
: Ducati against the might of Honda etc. Shortly afterwards he and
: his daughter were tragically killed in a car accident returning
: from their local fish and chip shop. A Heuer man, so far as I
: can tell (though Seiko may have been a sponsor of some kind
: judging by the occasional patch evident on his leathers at that
: time) Mike had four blue Silverstones engraved and given away to
: the team who helped him win on the Island that year. Of course
: there are many online articles that explain the Hailwood myth
: far better than I can, and you may also stumble across a 2011
: auction entry for one of the four watches. Anyway, great images
: Shaun and I would urge anyone to seek out IOM TT clips on
: youtube and see if it floats your boat - there really is nothing
: quite like it in this heath and safety obsessed age and it's one
: of the few events in which you can still mingle in the paddock
: with racers and sit within feet of bikes flying past at
: ridiculous speeds inches from roadside walls and all manner of
: other solid objects.
