The iPhone is a proper camera, especially the new iPhone 6 and more especially the newest 6s. I think it is an especially good camera for watch photography for a couple of reasons. Aside from it being available all of the time it has good macro capability and a very short focal length lens so in decent light it gives you very good depth of field/focus. I think an iPhone 6s will compete very well for turning out quality watch pictures with most point and shoots and is easier to use. Lighting and camera stability not the camera per se are the keys to watch photography anyway.

Most people will never believe me but except in my studio I will take an iPhone (probably the new Samsung Galaxy too) over almost anything including my big Nikon.

Light (and maybe a bit of technique) makes pictures my friends...not cameras.
