My best guess is that for every one person that thinks "Oh wow! Cool. A limited edition, 007 James Bond Seamaster Pro" there will be an equal number of people who will say "Oh wow. How silly. Bond is a fictional character".
Therefore, I would buy the version that YOU are happiest with. And yes, as you've pointed out, the Special Edition is significantly more expensive... in fact, one could probably buy two SMPs for the price of the one lmtd. ed. (e.g. an auto Bond and a quartz New Dial/Hands combo.)
