Well, time I chimed in here to confuse the matter. I'll have to agree that the quartz is accurate, and generally requires less maintenance, though I'd have to disagree over why we own and wear watches. I wear one because I like the tactile feel of having one on my wrist. I like the motions of winding and wearing watches, of dealing with all their little quirks. If I just wanted to know the time, I'd look at my pager and be done with it. That being said, I prefer the Autos over the quartz. They just have more personality. I deal with the need to keep them wound by leaving the autos on a winder when I'm not wearing them.
I have both Quartz and Auto, Digital and analog. My faves are the Sub and the S/M Pro Auto.
