Funny you should say it's implausable, but what about the Jet Pack from Thunderball? People who see that movie now probably think that it was some miniature model stuck into the movie, but *guess* what? It's real! It was built by the US army in the late 50's in the hope that solders would one day be flying around in these things. But, back to the topic at hand... The watch wire is perfectly plausable. High strengh wire isn't that hard to find nowadays, hell, the US army and probably Britain, have the means of making a high tensel wire. And to fit into the watch? Make it *thicker*!!! Haven't you ever thought that the movement might just be above the wire in a thicker case, and that the wire could just be connected to the bezel? Guess not from your reasoning...
