I'm not quite sure what "very direct and pointy" means, It doesn't mean to be impolite, swear or be bombastic, but it means to express frustration at the situation and that one is trying to maintain one's composure and temper about the situation. It means to not candy coat the situation, it means to direct, concise and to the point.
but I would say "a very clear, but polite" letter would be a good start. It's always best to start off with friendly communications (it's ok to express disappointment about the watch's failure) and to attempt to maintain friendly, cordial and polite communications for as long as possible.
After all, once's you've thrown a temper tantrum, you can't un-throw it.
My thought was that if it's been in Omega's care for Three to Six months, the original poster said both, it may be time to be a little more firm. One can be direct and pointy without being impolite: ,, On xx/xx/xxxx I purchased an Omega model X, It failed on me on yy/yy/yyyy, after which I had it repaired, and then again X number of weeks later on zz/zz/zzzz after which I sent it to your facility. It is now 3/6/whatever months later and I am out the monies I paid for this watch, have no watch and no idea when this situation will be resolved.
At this point I am frustrated beyond polite conversation.
I'd propose that at this time Omega either:
a) give me a complete and total refund of the purchase price of this watch and the shiping costs (if any) I've incurred.
or b) you replace the watch with throughly tested and prinstine new example of the exact model, and we can hope it will perform as billed by Omega's marketing.
I hope you understand my concerns and frustration at this situation.

There's no need to generate any unnecessary animosity. There is a saying from the movie Roadhouse:
"Be polite, until the time comes to be impolite". The trick is to know when to be impolite. The owner of the watch will have to determine when it's in his best interests to move towards being impolite. After 3-6 months, It's probably time to start being a little more firm and less flowery though. I'm not sure I could mainain a positive outlook with this much time having had pass.
