Ok, without trying to start yet another debate here, I will make one comment, again. Someone I work with received a ROLEX as a gift from her husband. It was a diamond dial ladies date just. The watch was OVER $8000. The watch did not work properly from the time she received it, and come to find out after about 2 months at the repair shop, the auto winding mechanism was replaced. So, the "other side of the fence" is not all roses either.
Also, it has been documented that not servicing a movement of any brand for 10 years, including Rolex will cause damage to the movement. So to boast of 10 year service intervals is like saying, I like running my car 25,000 miles without an oil change. Yes, it should be able to run 25,000 miles without changing the oil, but dont expect it to not have any problems.
Also, you referenced that it cost you heaps to have it repaired. A full service at Omega for a SMP is around $300 or so. Discounted price of a 2531.80 - $1400, plus $300 for service. Total of about $1700. Price of a comparative Submariner - $4000+. And you thought it was expensive to get the SMP repaired? Be prepared to really open up the pocketbook for a ROLEX repair.
I am sorry for the problems you had with your SMP Carlos, and you too Khalid. I just wanted to point out that perception is sometimes not reality, and that to own a mechanical watch of any brand does come with continued ownership costs. I have been very fortunate with my 2 Omegas that I have not had either of them give me any problems, and this is as it should be.
