I'd love to hear about the plans for your customs. It seems that Speedys would be especially well suited to this with a variety of dial, hand and bezels that are easily available as NOS.
Thanks again for the encouragment. On the Watchuseek board, there's a pic of the watch. It's really much cleaner than the e-bay pics make it out ot be.
