: Dear Karl,
: Don't know about the battery type, but my SMP
: quartz has almost gained 1 WHOLE SECOND in
: the past FIVE MONTHS! This is measured
: against an atomic clock. If you love
: accuracy (like I do), you won't find it in a
: more attractive package than this.
Dear Linq:
I also check my watches with an atomic clock (WWV), and what you are confirming is music to my ears.
WOW, <1 sec in 5 months!!! I can definitely live with that.
Initially, when I considered going quartz, I was specifically looking for a very high precision, temperature compensated movement. The accuracy of these watches is +/- 10 secs/year. As I understand it, older SMP's used to have one of these, but apparently, Omega is only using it on their Constellation Perpetual, which is NOT a divers watch. The Longines VHP, also has thermal compensation and a very nice 10 year lithium battery, and it is rated at up to 200 meters, but isn't a true diving watch. Rolex has some very nice quartz movements, buy I think they only come in the Datejusts.
I have tried asking the battery and movement question to several "dealers", but unfortunately they aren't into the technical aspects of what they sell. I have done quite a bit of searching for detailed info on the movement, but as I had mentioned on the previous post, have only obtained generalities.
This watch is looking better and better everytime. The more I read, the more I like it (not to mention every time I see the picture). I would certainly like to obtain more specifics on the movement, but for now, it looks like I might just be taking one to the Bay Island this next weekend.
Thanks for your input
