Re: questions about the Seamaster Pro Chronometer

: 1) what will it take to scratch the synthetic
: sapphire crystal? not that I want to, but I
: would like to know the crystals tolerance
: level...

I've chipped the edge of the crystal in my Rolex Submariner in a couple of places and put a very shallow scratch in it somewhere along the way. These blemishes are so small you cannot see them with your eye, but you can feel them if you rub the edge of the crystal with your nail or the blade of a knife. They synthetic sappired used in modern watch crystals is extremely durable.

: 2) for a watch that's acclaimed for being so
: sturdy and robust, it also sounds like it
: needs to be babied and pampered. What's your
: opinion on this? Should I buy a cheepie
: Timex or G-Shock for swimming or chilling
: out on the beach?

I wouldn't worry about it. I think you'll find your SMP is incredibly rugged. I wouldn't unnecessarily subject it to harsh use, but I wouldn't hesitate to wear it on the beach or while swimming. After all, it's good enough for James Bond, ain't it?
