In Response To: Re: SMP Quartz... (long) ()

regarding accuracy, it's about what you're willing to accept or do. For me (I have an SMP Auto), I can very simply keep it exactly dead-on. I lose .5 sec. during the day, and if I place it face down at night, it gains/loses nothing. Every couple of days or so, I'll leave it face up as I sleep, and it'll make up 2 seconds. No inconveniences whatsoever when you've gotten to know your watch. I am in agreement that there is a place for the quartz, as they can certainly take a beating and tend to be consitent, but for many it really does come down to an appreciation and fascination for the engineering feat of making alll of those little parts function in harmony to produce accurate timekeeping. There's much heritage in a mechanical, and they are all indeed unique, one of a kind pieces insofar as they perform differently depending on the wearer and circumstances. I'll always have a quartz as a back up beater, and will always appreciate it's reliability! Have a good one!
