is stupid enough to argue that mechanicals are more acurate than a top quality quartz. Notice I said top quality because I have seem some crummy quartz watches not perform very well. What I think Ferec is alluding to is the fact that a mechanical watch can be "regulated" by learning the positions that affect its timekeeping. Say if you lose about 2 sec a day and you can sit it on your dresser crown up and it will gain those 2 seconds over nitght then you are essentially dead on give or take a fraction of a second. A quartz watch has no such tendencies. If it gains a fraction of a second a day it will do so in any position and after 3-4 months may be 5 seconds fast or even more and the mechanical watch may still be dead on....get it?
Mechanicals are complicated little semi autonomous machines that to the owner have less to do with 'down to the second' timekeeping and more to do with the fascinations with the little machine part.
