Interesting discussion..

Well in Europe, I think most would agree that collecting is a female thing (ref shopping all day long..).

Stereotyping it:

Whilst woman like to collect all sorts of things which may be of practical use today or at some time in the future, (ref to good a bargain to miss and home/cave making), but mostly just fill up the house. The male collecting is more geared towards competive usability, performance and wealth aquisition (ie survival/competition related).

In my opinion, this fits both present day and the cave men psychology better, 4-500 years of evolution across the Atalntic may have changed things though (for the better?)
