In Response To: '70's Valjoux's really shouldn't pick fights w/'70's Lemania's... (Chicagoland Chuck Maddox)

Chuck,

This very subject came up the other day with my son (13yrs.). I have been teaching him the ins and outs of different watches, their utility, their design and "what makes them work (the movements).

After several examples, Omega, Heuer, Rolex, Sinn, etc he asked the inevitable question, "Which one is the best?" I paused for a moment and asked him this question in return. "Which one is best Playstation 3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii?"

His reply says it all. "That's not a fair question -They're all great."

But actually, it is a fair question...

Comparing the c.321 and the v.72 is like comparing Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan... In the end they were both GREAT players. I mean really, who gives a $#¡+? I'm from Chicago and think the world of MJ, but I'd be happy to have either one on my team. I think most people/owners/coaches/etc. would be happy with either one.

[In downtown Chicago accent:] Youse makes your choices [however you want to do it] and youse goes from d'here.

Kids get it &endash; I wonder why when we become adults it becomes more difficult?

How often are kids paying for the XBox 360, PS3 or Wii with monies they've earned from their own labor? When you're investing X USD in a Speedmaster [and X times 2-6 USD in a Daytona or pre-Daytona Rolex Chronograph, there is a tendency to become emotionally involved in the rationalization for that decision. At least that's my working theory.

The stakes are a little higher than justifying buying an Animal's CD instead of a Dave Clark Five CD...

to put it on a 13 year-old's budget terms... But it does seem like he's got a good head on his shoulders, Scott.

BTW &endash; You're right, SWMBO didn't say anything about typing!

Just so you know... While I am a licensed HAM, I'm a no-code HAM, so send any electronic messages in clear text!

Scott

Cheers and Good Hunting!
