Re: Which of these two Seamasters is the more collectible on

Hi again.. and thanks for the response! I apologize for the ambiguity of my question, and had to re-think my real intent. I'm not a speculator, but am looking for an older Omega dress watch- in the $1000 range- that will hold up to daily wear. Your comment about the limited production/ parts of the Polaris tells me that it could be problematic, over time... but maybe it is more collectible? I sure do like the look of the mixed metals, but I guess the DeVille is a more prudent choice(?)

Thanks again, RAF

: You have asked two differing questions in your title and in the
: body: better investment and more collectible

: Collectibility is a personal decision -- it is completely about
: what you like

: Investment is inappropriate in talking about collecting watches.
: Collections are passions, not a means to make money by
: speculating.

: The Deville is likely to last much longer, and has numerous sources
: for parts. When it breaks, you have lots of options: repair,
: replacement of the movement, fabrication of the needed part. The
: Polaris is a one-off movement, with a limited production run and
: few sources of parts. When it breaks, you have few options. The
: electronics are no longer made.

: It is speculation on my part to guess as to future prices . . . .
: but generally speaking, recent history has favored mechanical
: prices versus quartz prices.
