Quickset date on 74363 ?

Hi all, quick question: can I quickset the date on a Valjoux 7734 like we do on the cal 11-12 by winding back and fro between 9-12?
I've heard somewhere winding a manual wound backwards does put a lot of strain on the movement so should be avoided, and others say it's just fine.
Any definitive answer?
