We are beginning to see eBay listings, marked to indicate that the watch is covered by the "Authenticity Guarantee".
I wonder how this one will pass the test? I don't recognize any element of the watch as being "Authentic" -- case, dial, movement, markings, serial number, etc.
Here's the link to the eBay listing -- https://www.ebay.com/itm/253124999317
Good luck to the person who buys this one and relies on the guarantee.
: I haven't studied the details yet, but lots of discussion about
: the new eBay guarantee of authenticity on watches sold for over
: Discussed here --
: It's difficult to imagine how this program will work. eBay has been
: allowing the sale of blatant fakes for 25 years, and has been
: terrible about removing even the few that are reported. With the
: increase in eBay fees, the states requiring the collection of
: sales tax here in the United States, and the proliferation of
: fake watches, it seems like eBay is fighting a losing battle, to
: regain share of the vintage watch market. I can't remember the
: last time I listed a watch for sale on eBay [probably 10 years
: ago] and the purchases have been increasingly uncommon.
: Too little, too late for eBay?
