Re: Used Omega Seamaster
In Response To: Re: Used Omega Seamaster ()

Hi Ed,

Yes, Omega has been around a long time, but I believe the Seamaster was introduced in 1948.

I picked up the watch at an antique shop in the San Telmo neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The name and address of that particular shop is:

San Telmo Chico
Defensa 774
C1065 AAM Buenos Aires - Argentina
(Tel. 4300-7890)

To add, there were several antique shops nearby this shop that had watches too. And the guy wanted US Dollars, or Euros, but he took British Pounds after calling to get an exchange rate. The watch I bought was marked $140, but he said he was having a sale and offered it for $100, and I paid the equivalent in British Pounds - £60.

Prices for just about everything are quite cheap in Argentina, and if you wanted to combine a holiday with some antique hunting, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea. It's the beginning of summer there, and it's quite safe.

In the shop where I bought the Seamaster, there were 2 other Omegas - one looked nicer and the other not as nice. The nicer one was more expensive, but I can't remember too much about it.

I'm sure if you walk around the area, San Telmo, you will find antique shops with several swiss watches.

: Actually, from what I know, Omega has been
: around a lot longer than 1948. Though I
: don't know if that Speedmaster is from then.
: I am thinking fifties, though I could be
: mistaken. Regardless, you got a very good
: deal. How are the prices down there for
: other Omegas of the same era?
