Watches are not high turnover items, so it is not unusual for a piece to have sat in a store's inventory for a few years.
I'd expect the truth is that the watch you bought is probably one that was returned. "In-store handling" is seldom enough to do marring like that. But that dealer does specify a 15 day return priviledge.
