It was an "Atomic Time" radio controlled clock Model no. RCL-08. It is a small battery operated digital clock. Generally it would work fine. Also, when there were problems, they would fix themselves, that is, if you looked at the clock a few hours later, it would be fine.

What I'm thinking about is the issue of absolute accuracy vs. slightly less accuracy in a quartz clock but with complete reliability. In any case since that atomic clock ceased functioning entirely a few months ago, I've been setting my watches on time.gov. Still I found the behavior puzzeling. I wonder if their transmitter occasionally malfunctions or something like that.
