The experts on MWR have informed me it is not actually a military issue Omega - wrong Cal. and markings on case back do not stack up. More likely it has started life as a non military watch and has been refurbished at some stage in a military style. That explains your correct observation on the hands, and probably explains why I managed to get it so cheaply (less than the cost of a repair on my old Seiko!)... I expect at least the dial and caseback are replacements.

I'd be interested to learn what it started life as, so will post SN to Omega as you suggest.
