Thanks Derek. I take your point, and probably I will now wait until I get back from my holiday (including some diving, I hope). I'm still interested in your guess, though!

My initial thought was he might be able to pre-order the parts, as the only way to get the serial number is to take the back off, and then of course you're committed to leaving the watch in the service department until the spares turn up - at least in the case of a watch where the water-tightness is an issue.

I have an Omega warranty card with the watch but a) I don't know if it's the right one for the watch, being dated 1990, and b) it only has a four-digit number on it.
