Thanks for that Brad. The crown may look odd but I'd bet good money that it is correct and original.

I've seen these crowns referred to as "gear-type", they have six wide grooves around the outside rather than the usual fine grooves or knurling. It's Omega badged.

The crown is also small, and combined with the thin case, flat glass, lack of case-back decoration plus the rather "Rolexy" dial design gives a light/cheap feel to the watch compared to later SMPs - but then, it *is* a cheap watch!

By which I mean a used early SMP like mine is about the same price as a new Seiko Kinetic Diver - both are good watches which will do the job, the Seiko is probably tougher and will have a guarantee, the Omega is (IMO) slightly more stylish and will not lose much more value.
