Thanks for your opinions. I ended up writing to Omega and I am posting their response here.

My email to them:

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a Seamaster Aqua Terra Co-Axial for my father, who is an avid golfer. I am curious as to whether the automatic movement is designed to withstand the shock of a golf stroke. I realize that Ernie Els is an Omega ambassador and so this might sound like a dumb question. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Their response:

Dear Mr Pang,
We thank you very much for your message and your interest shown in our brand.
All our Omega watches are submitted to the severe tests (one of them is to test the resistance to shocks) of the Swiss Official Chronometer Control (COSC).
Therefore, there is no risk to damage the watch while playing golf.
...

The fact that he said all Omegas are subjected to COSC tests makes me lose confidence in his knowledge of the brand. What do you guys think? I will get the watch nonetheless.

Andy

: Hi there. I'm wondering whether any of you
: golfing Omega owners wear your automatics on
: the course. Is the shock of golfing damaging
: to the movement? I'm specifically looking at
: a Seamaster Aqua Terra for my dad. Thanks.
