Not to start a war or anything but my GMT Master really was that slow. I had it regulated at least twice over the years but it was always slow, in varying degrees. As to the submariner being a beater, I remember years ago visiting a cement plant in rural Indonesia and talking to an american diesel mechanic there. As you would expect he was coverd in grease past his elbows, but on his left wrist were two! submariners. The crystals were scratched so bad you could barely read the time. But the crystals can be replaced and the watches polished. They make great beater watches.

That's not to say I don't like subs, they just don't look as dressy as the seamaster. I wish I had bought the first one I ever looked at in a jewelry store. That was in 1977 and it was going for $600. I still get the urge to buy one, I just can't justify it.
