My 13 year old Daughter doesn't understand daddy's obsession with Omega watches. She announced recently that she wanted a new watch - so off we went to the local shopping centre.

Soon, we had our noses pressed up against the display window of the local Omega retailer.

I pointed out all the glorious details of the jewellers impressive range of Omegas. Cost, style, model number - you name it. I was determined to educate my darling Daughter in the finer points of watch ownership. She seemed disinterested and gazed off in the direction of K-Mart.

I explained that one day Daddy will buy another Omega watch right after daddy finally gets that promotion, finishes paying for all your school fees, your dental work, your clothes, your entertainment, your mobile 'phone, your mother's dental work, mortgage, car repairs, health insurance, speeding fines, taxes (State & Federal), gas, electricity, water, food....

She gently stopped me in mid sentence by holding up a her hand in a sort of a 'hey, cool it' position.

"I would like a Casio digital please".

She smiled.

"With a built in timer, alarm and stopwatch"

I slumped against the display window and mumbled a forlorn and bearly audible "Gee....I guess so".

Anyway, my Wife sits in the lounge wearing my Seamaster and reading the paper and my Daughter sits in her bedroom, with her Casio, timing herself to see how long she can go without blinking.

Hey, is that a bottle of Jack Daniels over there.....
