Re: OMEGA-matic
In Response To: OMEGA-matic ()

Omega-matic is a technology used in the watch movement (the mechanism inside the watch) that is basically a quartz watch, but recharges itself from your physical movement rather than needing regular battery replacements. It is *not* a feature that you operate directly or can be added to another watch.

The only way to get this is to buy a watch that comes with this type of movement inside. The same technology is sold by other brands under names like Auto-Quartz and Kinetic.

This is an interesting hybrid technology. You get the accuracy of quartz combined with the convenience of an automatic (what used to be called self-winding) watch.

Useful? Well, yes, as it means you simply wear the watch daily and it runs. No winding, no battery changes--ever.

Other variations on the theme include quartz watches that recharge themselves off solar power (exposure to light).
