Question for Derek...

There have been some posts on another forum recently where people are suggesting (insisting?) that the SM bracelet is made in Hong Kong or some other South East Asia location. The point being that Omega is getting cheap components and gouging us customers in the retail price.

I know your FAQ states that the SM bracelet is Swiss Made, even if it doesn't have any such markings. How can we be sure of this?

Also, not much is said about the origin of other major components. Have you any idea about where the case, dial & hands, and crystal are made? Are they made by Omega, or contracted out to local specialists in Switzerland? Or do they come from the far east somewhere.

The point of all this hasn't to do with quality so much as our perceived value. I would feel much better about paying US$1700 knowing the cost of manufacture was a significant part of the retail price. If, however, as some are suggesting, the cost of the components of a SM Pro (or GMT for that matter) are insignificant (say, < $100?), I might not feel I'm getting as good a value.

Thanks for any help Derek. And thanks for a great site.

...Bruce
