Actually, since we haven't seen pictures of it we can't be sure its a different clasp.

Did this gentleman buy the watch second hand? If so, its possible that the previous owner may have filed down that razor sharp flange.

As you know, the sharp edge of the flange protrudes when the extension is open as it is on a diving suit. I frankly think as a divers extension its potentially dangerous and poorly designed. The sharp edge could catch on to and rip almost anything soft.

I could definitely see someone filing it smooth.
