Authorized vs. Non-authorized warranties

Without sounding too horribly ignorant, what is the real difference between the warranty I'd get from Omega vs. one I'd get from a non-authorized dealer like Ashford? Other than the stability of the company (which in this market of falling dot-coms is no small issue, I admit) what am I really putting at risk? I mean, if the watch is bad, either dealer would repair it, correct? Hope I'm not being too tedious about this, but I'm trying to make a truly informed decision before I buy. I appreciate any comments or insights folks may have. Thanks!
