Airport Scanners & Watches

I'm concerned about the potential for damage to my watches from airport security scanners. What's the best way to get them through? Which is safer: The people scanner or the carry-on baggage scanner?

I'm asking for advice as one of my Omegas, a GMT, started behaving erratically in conjunction with a recent trip around Europe. The only thing I can think of that might have interfered with the watch's performance is airport security.
