help, winding crown problem?

I have had a SMP (model 2055.80) for five months and it has been keeping flawless time (w/in 2 sec/day)but it has been doing something odd. When I have reset the time or adjusted for 30 day months, the winding crown resists being screwed back in so much that it will actually UNSCREW itself about a 1/4 turn in about 2 seconds if I have not fully screwed it down. I can actually see it undo itself right before my own eyes.

The other odd thing is that when I set it to the winding setting, it makes a series of clicking sounds when I wind it. All this seems odd particularly in light of the fact that it is keeping such good time. Has anyone seen this before? Is it a sign of something wrong? Is it possible that it is overwinding itself?
