Re: 1970s Heuer Monaco black PVD

OnTheDash Vintage Heuer Discussion Forum!

This is just my second posting; I wrote my first post some days ago responding to a Monaco Replacement Strap discussion but did’t received any return! So here is my second post to this excellent forum and again: Hello everybody!

Coming from Germany I am generally interested in 1960 – 1970 wrist watches (especially chronographs) and I am looking after my own little collection which is still growing (not Heuer specific but mainly).

Regarding the very diserable 1970s Heuer Monaco black PVD offered on the internet auction mentioned please allow following comments: the seller indicates that the watch “has the original perforated black leather strap - very rare and valuable ORIGINAL black strap and buckle”. This is relatively safe for the buckle but for the strap? All original Heuer straps of this period I ever saw had 1) a slightly different perforation style 2) only a single leather clasp securing the end of the strap down the buckle 3) a different more textured and softer looking surface of the leather. The style of this starp is very, very similar to replacement straps available in Germany. These starps were discussed here some months ago and are of good quality but they are not of Heuer quality and not even very rare or valuable. They are just a replacement, available at the moment. I am very sure that this is not a orginal 1970s period Heuer strap, even more not the matching strap to this particular watch!

Isn’t that the point where the Frankenheuer story starts to begin ??? I know it’s the watch not the strap but…

Regards,

L.-E. Schulte
