WHAT CRISIS?!?!?!? This is an Opportunity!

Gentlemen: We Must Discuss David's Message

Gentlemen:

let me announce a crisis situation:

WHAT CRISIS?!?!?!?

One of my former bosses had a wonderful ancedote for the word Change...

In Chinese (I think it's Chinese) the pictogram for Change is a combination of the pictograms for Danger and Opportunity...

So I see David's selling off vast sections of his Heuer holdings as great potential opportunity for those of us who are looking for the models David is considering selling. In fact, I've already taken David up on one (non-Heuer) opportunity. Unfortunately, I'm not certain how many more opportunities I can afford!

counting on all my fingers and all my toes (except the two big ones), it seems that our friend, David, the heart and soul of our little community of Heuer enthusiasts, has traded 18 watches (mainly Heuers) for the four Rolexes (shown below).

Well, I suppose that the world doesn't revolve around Mini's, T-Bird's and AC's... Someone has to own the Gullwing Mercedes...

and so I must ask these questions, among many others:

· if this could happen to David, are any of us safe?

I suppose the opportunity is there for any of us. If you would have asked me 5 years ago: "Chuck, will you ever own a Tudor?" I would have answered "A POOR MAN's ROLEX? Not likely!" In 2003 I bought two in rapid succession.

• are we all destined to trade in all the junky Heuers, to be left with a couple of the Rolexes?

Not all... I suspect one or more of us will stay back behind happily snapping up the pick's of the litter.

• how will we consolidate our collections, or will we leave that to the heirs and executors?

And who is the advocate of selling off pieces which aren't garnering enough wrist time?

• what's with these damn Rolexes?

I suppose it's a sickness, like any other, albeit with a higher financial cost.

• where are the pushers and registers on these chronos; they are chronos, aren't they?

I'm reminded of the Gary Lewis (Jerry's boy!) and the Playboy's song "Sure Gonna Miss Her"...

Sure Gonna Miss Her - Gary Lewis and the Playboys

Written by Bobby Russell

Peak chart position # 9 in 1966

I never did too much to make her stay here
And words of love to her I'd never say
I guess I learned a lesson when she walked out to stay
But I'm sure gonna miss her, sure gonna miss her, sure gonna miss her every day
I don't suppose I ever said "I love you"
And I found out too late that wasn't right
I'm just now realizin' what I lost, that's why I'm cryin'
And I'm sure gonna miss her, sure gonna miss her, sure gonna miss her every night
I know I took her love for granted
Guess you could say my love was blind
Thought if she left that I could stand it
Or else it didn't matter at the time
I heard she's found a guy that treats her better
I hope he knows that he's a lucky man
I know the rumor's true because I saw her today
And I'm sure gonna miss her, he was walking with her, sure gonna miss her, yes I am

Whenever I hear Gary Lewis and the Playboys, I'm taken back to a family vacation in central Florida (Tampa-Clearwater/Orlando/Daytona-Cape Kenedy) where a station had them in heavy playback...

Somehow, I suspect that David might miss the pushers and subdials...

· will David stop here, or will he be moving up to the Patek's before this is over?

Patek's loss will be Rolex collector's gain!

• what's with those ugly cyclops thingies? is David getting near-sighted?

Don't knock them until you tried them! Although, Heuer's Pilot model's implimentations might be a better way to do it.

· what good is an Explorer II if the bezel won't even turn?

Well, I suppose if one is in the military or is reading european transportation timetables it's still useful.

David: I don't know how any of us Heuer guys will be able to sleep tonight . . . the crisis is upon us!!

But for me, the crisis is different. I'll be struggling with how I can afford that piece of David's collection that is suddenly available, not that Rolexia Nervosa might be contagious...

Jeff

Just an alternative view...
