Hi Barry - the first Heuer 1000 Divers featured in the 1979 catalogue. The men’s size 42mm featured an automatic movement ref: 844 and quartz ref: 8440. No mystery here and they do pop up on ebay every now and then. If possible please post a picture of the front and back. As this was the first execution of this model they may well have used the same caseback for the two references. Mine (see below) is an 844 and has no "Made in France" on the dial like the early ones. Does yours?
Regards
Paul
