It is simple to compare a Patek to a Heuer. The Glory of the Patek movement aside, a watch in this day and
age is a function of art, style, and in some cases history and if you are lucky, investment.

I do have to question the notion that the Chronomatic Siffert with a high estimate of $24,000 is a poor mans watch.

My analogy of the Patek collector was brought about because I believe the press associated with this auction will
bring in collectors from outside the Heuer world. If you have the stomach and the means to have a few dozen Pateks,
then it stands to reason you will not be put off by the prices in this auction.

As mention by someone else here, if you could buy a factory prototype Rolex for $24,000 would you.

I also as a function of fun conversation will say that Heuer collecting fits well with Pateks.

Using cars as an analogy, my dream collection would include a late 60's VW Karman Ghia ($10,000) a late 60's Porsche 911
silver ($30,000) and a Ferrari 250 LWB Cal Spyder ($2,500,000) among others. All epic cars, all for very different reasons.

Having said all that I am a bit biased. If price was the same or, money no object, I would have a Patek or two but the vast
majority of my wrist time would be dedicated to Heuers.
