Jeff, the Swiss law around the 'Swiss Made' markings do allow for the term in French.
"The Swiss laws permit the use of the words "Suisse", "produit suisse", "fabriqué en Suisse", "qualité suisse" or the translations, "Swiss", "Swiss Made", or "Swiss Movement". From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_Made
As for why, I don't know, I can only guess at maybe: Domestic market, Different dial manufacturer etc.
I've had a good hunt through the web, and it seems other brands (JLC, Rolex etc) have the same issue.
