The reissued TAG-made timers don't really fit with the aesthetic of the Singer though.
Agree with that . . . Singer was trying to math the look and style of the other gauges, and the Heuers -- vintage or reissued -- would not work well, IMHO.
I think the clock on the Singer dash is quite cool looking, actually.
Indeed, it is a fine looking piece. If the registers functioned, it would be even better . . . they are just for decoration / style, but the look is good.
But they are going to rue the day they slapped that Heuer decal on there. If LVMH sicks their lawyers on Singer, the scene is going to get ugly.
Yes, it could -- in theory -- get ugly if TAG Heuer sued them for damages or demanded that Singer remove the clocks from the cars, which have already been delivered to customers. Of course, Singer could have sought a license from TAG Heuer, before they had these made, but I suppose the Singer Design imagined (a) that this was not likely to be discovered / become an issue, or (b) that it would be easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. Amazing to me that a company would be embarking on a big venture like the production of these cars, and get either lazy or sloppy in dealing with this sort of detail. They were surprised when I called and started asking about the clocks.
I agree with Jeff that the fact that the subregisters don't work is super stupid. But from a purely aesthetic POV I love the look.
Yes, they are simply decorative and very nice decorations, at that . . . "decorative" is not an adjective we use a lot in describing high performance sports cars. Looking at these dead registers would make me crazy; I would want more for my $300,000!!
It would be a shame if Singer gets put out of business by LVMH over a silly decal...But it could happen.
I am doubting that this will be where this ends up; but I have absolutely no idea whether this will come to TAG Heuer's attention or how TAG Heuer reacts to this sort of thing.
