I agree with John. The author has some pretty reasonable points for his position.

The main one I don't buy is the "reliability" difference between new and vintage, as that point is obvious and doesn't really need to be stated (although the way my 1966 Seamaster springs to life I do wonder whether newer watch movements are necessarily better).

I'm still a vintage guy, but I do find it a little less fun these days, mainly due to the increased hype surrounding the hobby (thanks Hoodinkee) and the pricing effect of increased demand due to all the new buyers. The hobby just felt more novel when I got into it, with a relatively intimate market, and now it feels just a bit too "popular". Or maybe this is just the passing of time and it's impact on me. But I best not get existential.
