All the items he was selling show up in his completed listings, so I am pretty certain he pulled them down (not eBay). I think he's just caught wind of what he has, and is working out what to do. In these cases I do have some sympathy for the seller (some, not a lot). It's the guy who cut in who is entirely responsible for the mess.
