Heuer Autavia GMT

I am the original owner of the original Autavia GMT Chronogram with the original steel bracelet, purchased when I lived in the Bahamas in the early 70s. After many years of use in all sports, including ocean, it is not operating. I sent it to the Illinois Watch Company whose horologist, Craig Stone, said that he had parts that it needed and could repair it to original specs for US$387, but he said that it would not be as fully waterproof as it originally was, as the push pins that work the choronogram controls have normal wear and that replacements no longer exist. He said that it should not be used for ocean sports, but that in all other respects it would have like new operational specs. I decided not to do the repairs and to buy a new divers watch for sea sport. Stone offered me US$225 for the watch.

Question: should I let him have it for that price. If not, how do you recommend that I sell it - I do not think that items that need repairs do well on Ebay, so I am inclined to accept his offer. However, I would like to think of it in the hands of someone who would appreciate it as I have.

Thank you for your counsel,

George C. McKinnis
