I generally refrain from posting links to watches that are for sale or auction but today is an exception. The “Team Diver” have compiled a Heuer Diver master reference table which will soon be published by Jeff on the OTD site. So I am pre-empting this exciting new development by highlighting two interesting Divers currently on ebay.

The first is a full size 42mm diameter early (thick) case, automatic movement with reference 844/4. What makes this watch unusual is that it has a day & date feature in what is essentially a standard dial configuration. This is only the third one I have seen and when we were compiling the table we debated if it actually existed. Jarl, who is the real expert on all things Diver, was sceptical but it was he who brought this latest one to my attention. Here is the link:

The second example is the reference 980.043. This is a mid size (32 or 38mm - yet to be confirmed) chrome plated case with quartz movement and the lovely two tone bezel. It was marketed as the economy version with plexiglass and depth rating to 30m. What makes this one interesting is the story that goes with the watch. According to the seller, this watch and the accompanying Microsplit stopwatch were used by the engineer who maintained Big Ben. BB must be one of the most famous time pieces on the planet and it appears that two vintage Heuer’s kept him on time. It may not have the same cachet as a watch worn by a Formula 1 driver nevertheless, still a great association for a Heuer Diver no less.
