Before My Second Recommendation, a Guide from Hodinkee
In Response To: Manhattan Adresses Please! ()

I will write up my second recommendation, within the next day or so . . . In the meanwhile, here is Hodinkee's Guide to NYC Watch Shops -- http://www.hodinkee.com/nyc/

Here is what Hodinkee says about Plaza:

One of the busiest and messiest watch shops we've ever seen, Plaza Watch requires every patron to sign in with telephone number and address. Don't be fooled by piles of cardboard boxes, Plaza stocks over 20,000 watches at a time and this includes everything from your $10 Timex to your $100,000 Patek Philippe.

Be warned, the salespeople here aren't as knowledgeable as we would like and often tell customers what they want to hear, whether it is true or not. If looking at a high-end or rare watch, it is best to talk to the owner, Lee, and do your research before you go in. Do not be afraid to walk away, Plaza will hold a watch for you. On occassion, we have heard of Plaza employing some very aggressive sales approaches, such as not allowing customers to leave until speaking to Lee.

WOW . . . 20,000 watches in stock . . . and up to the minute appraisals on each of them!! Once again, the best advice is that upon entering the store you should be visualizing your exit strategy!!
