It befuddles me how the watch industry can get away with such measly warranties. In all other luxury product markets, warranties are becoming increasingly generous.
I do a lot of flyfishing. The trend w/ flyfishing equip, which is expensive, is to offer an unlimited lifetime warranty (read "unlimited"--can run over gear with car and get replaced no questions asked). In the auto industry, warranty periods and scopes of coverage are ever-increasing with some out to 10 yrs and 100,000 miles.
If Omega offered a 10 year warranty -- unprecedented in the industry -- it would have so many takers, it couldn't make watches fast enough. Unfortunately, it seems none of the mfgrs are willing to put their money where there mouth is. Omega touts its quality and technology, but isn't willing to back it up.
