I bought my 2298.80 SMP Chronograph Ti from Newwatch.com in Spring of 1999, which I believe changed its name to Ashford a couple of years later. I didn't realize that the serial number were filed off the case when I purchased it but I became aware of it after a class action law suit was made against them, initiated by a client who bought a matching ladies & gents Omega Watches and not realizing the serial numbers were filed till he took them to a local Omega Jeweler to get resized (they refused to adjust them!).
Anyway, I think they offered all past customers a refund an/or 25% discount on any new purchase due to the bad publicity. But I wasn't bothered, like others I would never have got the huge 40% + discount over retail without them selling it in first place. I also learnt how to service the watch myself after it slowed & stopped from 4 years of initial use. It now runs better than ever and within a couple of secs per week. I saw my same watch on Ebay used and scratched worse than mine but going for exactly what I paid new. Basically I could sell for close to what I paid after 8 years! A Fantastic watch, with or without Serial Number. BTW - the movement has the serial number on it and the leading numbers match the accepted Omega approx year of manufacture for late 90's.
