Scan Day: Respected Rivals: through the years...

Scan Day: Respected Rivals Posted By: jeff stein Date: 4/28/06 06:18 GMT

we have previously done the Rivals / Competitors scan day (March 2005), but today's discussion of the Autavias and Speedmasters made me think that we could visit this topic again.

so show us the Respected Rivals . . . watches that might have battled for sales / respect / leadership, but would have respected each others strengths and differences.

here we see an Autavia from around 1965 and a Speedmaster from 1969. looking only at their elements (hands, registers, bezels, etc.), they seeme to have little in common. they share the same essence, however -- manual wind, three register chronographs from the 1960's . . . perhaps the ultimate "tool" / purpose-built watches.

Jeff

Jeff, I'm going to be lazy today and recycle four of my posts from last time around:
Mid-1960's:Seamaster L.321 Vs. Carrera V.72:

Mid/Late 1960's: Autavia v.72 Vs. Speedmaster c.321:

Early 1970's: Seamaster c.861 Vs. Autavia v.7736:

Late 1970's/Early 1980's: Lemania 5100> Carrera Vs. Speedmaster:

All are comparable watches in terms of movement and market segment. The similarities and differences are interesting to compare and contrast...
