Grey Market and Serial Numbers

Here's a story to relate... After agonizing over whether to get a SMP or Breitling Superocean for my new present to myself, I decided on the SMP. Now the fun starts... Using every Web search engine known to man I bookmarked about eight dealer sites, and emailed them all about availability and price of a new SMP with new dial. I also asked whether they obliterated the serial number.

Not wanting a no serial number watch, I was very curious what sorts of responses I would receive. Of the eight queries, I got about three back. One grey market dealer in Switzerland said his serial numbers were intact. The other two said they were not.

This makes me wonder... Are all the USA dealers who are selling the SMP below a certain price point ... say $1100 ... selling merchandise without the serial number? I am paying exactly $1100 from Switzerland, shipping included but duty (if any) not. By the way, it think it's really great to be able to get such nice discounts on Omega watches. I own a couple Rolex models that I had to pay close to list for, and paying list price for anything is no my favorite thing to do.

This is my second post to Zowie.... Thanks for a great Web site!
