: I am looking for a better understanding about
: why so many people say that it's essential
: to get a watch with the serial number
: intact. Any help on this one?

Removing the serial number is a defacement of your watch done to protect some guy trying to make a buck through shady, somewhat unethical means. It it NOT done to protect YOU--in fact it does expose you to some potential risk. Why would you want to support this method of distribution? Expecially when you can get the same watch *with* serial number for about the same price or only a bit more?

: Also, for any of the lawyers out there, how can
: Omega force resale price maintenance on
: their dealers in light of antitrust law
: prohibitions on vertical price fixing? My

Price fixing is when MULTIPLE manufacturers conspire to control prices. That is very different from when a single manufacturer contractually requires their authorized distributors and dealers to not sell products at more than a specified discount. Many luxury products are handled this way.
